Measure the voltage

At least 4,000 volts at the furthest point of your fence

Keep the wire clear

Grass and branches touching the wire cause power loss

Check the earthing

Wet or too few earth stakes cost a lot of power

Replace the battery

Shorter days mean less solar power

Get your fencing ready for winter

Wet ground, falling leaves and growing grass let current leak away, making your fence less effective. So check your fence thoroughly in autumn: test the voltage with a tester, keep the wire clear of vegetation, make sure the earthing is good and replace your battery in good time. Ordered before 21:00, shipped today.

Everything for your fencing, from energiser to earthing

A good electric fence consists of a suitable energiser, the right conductor, good insulators and solid earthing. Below are the main categories with a short explanation, so you can quickly make the right choice.

The right energiser

If you have a mains socket nearby, a 230V mains energiser is the most powerful and the cheapest to run. In the field, choose an energiser powered by a 9V battery or 12V battery, optionally topped up with solar power. A dual-power energiser can run on both. View all energisers.

Tape, wire or rope?

Fence tape is highly visible and therefore popular for horses. Fence rope is strong and catches less wind, and fence wire or steel wire is ideal for long fence lines. Wire strainers, wire connectors and tape connectors keep everything taut, and a reel makes it easy to wind up. View all conductors.

Insulators and posts

Choose insulators that suit your conductor, such as wire and rope insulators or tape insulators. Offset insulators keep the wire away from an existing fence. For the construction, you'll find fence posts, post drivers and ground augers.

Gate handles and gateways

Insulated gate handles let you open and close the fence safely. For a permanent entrance, choose one of our gateways.

Good earthing

Without good earthing, no energiser works at its best. Use enough earth stakes and connect everything with earth cables and connecting leads. View everything for earthing.

Netting, sheep, goats and wolf protection

For smaller livestock, fence netting is quick to put up, and under fencing for sheep and goats you'll find everything you need. Want to protect your animals from wolves? Take a look at wolf protection.

Testing and safety

A fence tester lets you quickly check the voltage and find leaks. Along public roads, put up warning signs, and anti-theft protection prevents your energiser from being stolen. Complete fencing kits contain everything you need to get started.

Frequently asked questions about fencing

About electric fencing and fencing

How many joules do I need?

That depends on the length of your fencing, the number of strands and the vegetation. As a rule of thumb, choose about 1 joule per 10 kilometres of conductor, with some extra margin for heavy vegetation or a long fence line. If in doubt, choose a slightly more powerful energiser.

Tape, wire or rope: which should I choose?

Tape is wide and highly visible, which is why it is widely used for horses. Rope is strong and catches less wind, which is handy in open areas. Wire is economical and suitable for long fences and for cattle. With all three, pay attention to conductivity: the lower the resistance, the further the current travels.

How do I make sure I have good earthing?

Use at least three galvanised earth stakes about one metre long, roughly three metres apart and in moist ground. The more powerful the energiser, the more earth stakes you need. Connect them with a good earth cable and check the connections regularly.

Why isn't my fencing working properly?

This is usually caused by current leakage. Grass, branches or leaves touching the wire, a broken insulator or a poor connection let current leak away. A weak earthing system or a flat battery can also be the cause. A fence tester helps you quickly find where the problem is.

How much space should there be between the posts?

With tape fencing, you usually place the posts every 4 to 6 metres so the tape doesn't catch too much wind. With wire or rope, this can be 6 to 10 metres. On bends and corners, use sturdier posts and corner insulators.

Do I need to put up warning signs?

If your fencing borders a public road or footpath, put up warning signs so passers-by know the fence is electrified. Place them at regular intervals where they are clearly visible.

Discover the benefits of electric fencing for animal safety

Electric fencing offers a reliable and efficient solution for keeping your animals safe and secure within designated areas. Whether you are managing horses, cattle, or smaller livestock, these systems provide a practical way to establish boundaries without compromising animal welfare. Many models are designed with safety features such as delayed shock pulses and alarm functions, ensuring that animals are protected while still respecting the boundaries. Additionally, electric fencing can help deter wild animals from entering your property, making it a versatile choice for various environments. With options tailored to different terrains and conditions, electric fencing is an essential tool for responsible animal management.

Innovative energy options for versatile fencing solutions

One of the standout features of electric fencing systems is their flexibility in energy sources. Many products in this category support dual power options, such as 230V mains electricity and 12V batteries, allowing you to use them both at home and in the field. Some models even include solar panel compatibility, offering an eco-friendly and sustainable energy solution. This versatility ensures that you can adapt your fencing setup to suit your specific needs, whether you require a stationary configuration or a portable system for temporary enclosures. Energy-efficient modes and intelligent battery management are often included, helping you save power while maintaining optimal performance.

Reliable performance across diverse terrains and conditions

Electric fencing systems are designed to perform effectively in various terrains and conditions, from open fields to areas with heavy vegetation. Many models feature advanced technologies like microprocessor-controlled energy management, ensuring consistent performance even in challenging environments. The ability to handle different levels of vegetation is a key consideration, with some devices capable of maintaining high voltage across long distances. Whether you need fencing for a small paddock or a large estate, these systems offer scalable solutions to meet your requirements. Additionally, durable materials and weather-resistant designs ensure long-lasting reliability, making them suitable for outdoor use in all seasons.

Smart technologies for efficient and safe fencing systems

Modern electric fencing systems incorporate smart technologies to enhance both efficiency and safety. Features such as LED indicators, digital displays, and automatic adjustments to fencing conditions provide real-time feedback, allowing you to monitor and optimize your setup. Safety mechanisms, including reduced shock intensity during prolonged contact, ensure the well-being of your animals while maintaining the effectiveness of the fence. Some models also include alarm functions that activate when the fence is disturbed, offering an added layer of security. These innovations make electric fencing not only practical but also user-friendly, giving you peace of mind as you manage your property.
