Frequently asked questions about horse products
About rugs and equipment
Which turnout rug does my horse need in autumn?
For an unclipped horse, a 0g or 50g turnout rug is usually enough in autumn. It keeps out rain and wind without being too warm. If your horse is clipped or the temperature drops below 5 °C, choose 100g to 200g fill.
What is a liner and when do I use one?
A liner is a separate inner layer that you clip into an outer rug. With one turnout rug and three liners (100g, 200g and 300g), you're covered for the whole season. That's cheaper and more practical than three separate rugs, and you only need to wash and reproof one outer rug.
How do I measure the right rug size?
Measure from the centre of the chest, along the side of the horse, to the back of the hindquarters. The length in centimetres is the rug size, for example 195 or 205 cm. If you're between two sizes, choose the larger one.
My rug has torn in the middle of winter, what now?
First check whether a repair is worthwhile: a tear in the outer fabric can often be patched with a repair kit from our rug accessories. If the rug is worn out, we keep the common sizes of our best-selling winter rugs in stock all season.
When should I clip my horse?
Clip as soon as the winter coat comes through and your horse starts sweating during work, usually from mid-October. A clipped horse then needs a warmer rug.
Which bit suits a young horse?
A single- or double-jointed loose ring or eggbutt snaffle is a great starting point for most horses. Measure the bit size from one corner of the mouth to the other, and you usually add 0.5 cm.
